Andrew Goodwin Music Video Theory.

In the process of filming my music video I have looked at the music video theory of Andrew Goodwin to help me with my music video.  In doing this I have learnt ways to make my video emote to an audeince.

I have created a powerpoint to emphasise what I have learnt from Andrew Goodwin's music video theory.

Second Draft of Music Video.

I have added more to my music video and changed certain aspects to make the video seem more like a music video and less like a movie.

Further Problems.

This entire week I have had to stop editing and all music video work which involved pinnacle due to problems with my computer.  However, I am told this problem will be solved for next week and editing should continue as normal.

Filming - Changes.

I have looked over my video and edited certain aspects of my music video to make it more effective and make this look less like a film and more like a music video.

The aspects I have changed are that I have used more cuts to cut from scene to scene.

I will post my video sometime during the week.

Filming Schedule - 26th November - 2nd December 2012.

Monday:

- Double Media lesson, will need to film shots of props and actors

- Media lesson, will be used to look at clips from the previous day and edit said footage.

- Due to mock exam week being the week commencing 3rd December I will be preparing for my exams.

Problems...

I have had numerous problems when doing my A2 Media Coursework...

However, more have started to crop up in the last few weeks these are:

- My actor is not always avaliable for filming as he has a part time job and so do I.

- Mock exam week is important as it will give me an idea of what my January and Summer exams will be like and will need a lot of attention to ensure I am successful.

- January exams:  I have five exams in January and over the Christmas period I will be revising to ensure I have the best possible grade I can achieve.  Due to this filming may be suspended for a period of time.

Filming Schedule - 19th November - 25th November 2012.

Monday:

- Editing parts of music video - the introduction.


Tuesday:

- Double media lesson will thus be the time to film more parts of my music video.  I will need certain props for this filming session.


Wednesday:

- Filming and editing will be suspended due to a short trip to Rome lasting three days.

Saturday:

- Other commitment of travelling to Crewe for an open day.

- Prepare for Monday and another day of filming.

Organisation.

I have decided to become more organised in my media work I will be creating a filming schedule for every week.

This schedule will show:

- When I will be filming
- When I will be editing my music video
- When I have other commitments

Camera Angles

I have been filming these past few days and whilst filming I have been considering what angles and shots to use.  During these considerations I have created a presentation of the main angles and shots I will consider using.

Cuts of Introduction of Music Video

I have constructed after taking shots of landscape/sky a introduction to my music video.  I believe with the fade effects I have used that this is looking more effective than my previous post of cuts.

Problems With Filming.

I have had a number of problems filming my music video:

- During the holidays I had a open day at a university which required me to leave for a few days.
- I have tried to make contact with my actor and have received no reply from said actor.


However I have been able to film the beginning shots of my music video.  Landscape/sky etc.

I have been putting together my music video, so far I have shot few scenes for my music video and I have put together the cuts shown below:

Problems That Have Occured.

A problem has occured when trying to post my video clips/cuts onto blogger.

- All the computers in access bar one has youtube and vimeo filtered.
- Access to said computer is limited due to number in media class.
- My laptop at home does not allow pinnacle files onto it.

Because of these problems I will need to find a time of day i.e. lunch and/or afterschool when I can use the computer with youtube access to continue posting my music video.

These are my two final posters I will be using for advertising my song 'Paradise'.

Tally By Target Audience For Poster.

I asked a number of students what their favourite poster was the results are shown below:

The results show that my poster 2 and 3 are most popular; after much consideration I have decided to use both these posters for advertising the song by 'Coldplay', 'Paradise'.  I have chosen these two specifically not just because they were most popular by my target audience but because one has all the necassary information on it to inform the audience and the other poster is simple and will intrigue the audience to read the finer print.

I have created a first draft of a potential poster for my song/album.

To improve I need to consider how I want this poster to look.  Do I want it simple and sweet?  Or exact and detailed?  I will construct other potential poster drafts and then create a short tally when asking a group of people which poster they like the best.

Dimensions.

I have worked out the exact dimensions for my poster.  When creating my poster I will need to consider how the appearence and structure of my poster will affect my target market.

Fourth Draft of Album Cover Front.

I have looked over more ideas for my album front cover.  I like the unique idea of this draft and prefer it to draft three of my album front cover.

I have been trying new ideas for my album front cover.

I do like this draft of my album front cover; however, I believe it could be too much and maybe I should consider doing something more simple which could be bold and stand out better due to its simplicity.

I have changed the colours of the background and the font to ensure my front cover will relate to both my album side and back cover.  To improve I will try other options of where to place my font and consider bold, italics etc.  Furthermore, I will also consider the use of a image of my actor.

I have started to construct an album front cover.  To improve I must look over my album side and back cover and relate my front cover the those finished drafts (colours, fonts etc.)

I have moved my fonts around to create a more professional and effective album side cover.

I have looked at my album cover side and looked at several different places of positioning my font.  Moreover, I have neaten my work up by adding in a capital letter for 'Coldplay' and I have added the title to the side cover.

I have changed the colours of both the background and font on my album cover side.  I believe I can improve this side cover however, by playing around with where I should place the font, what size I should make it and if I should add anymore necessary information that might be needed to make my album cover side more professional.

To improve I believe I should bring in more colour like I did with my back cover and consider adding in slightly more information.

I have been looking at my album cover and have made slight changes to ensure the back cover is looking both professional and effective.  In this new draft I have moved the font slightly and placed prices for both UK and USA as Coldplay is a popular band worldwide.

I have constructed a third draft of my album cover back.  I have changed my album cover to add in specific information to make the back cover seem more professional and potentially something that  could be sold in high street shops.

I have constructed a new draft of my album cover back.  From my first draft I looked over my colour scheme and choose a suitable colour scheme which I liked and used that for my background and font.  Furthermore, I made the image of my actor smaller and used a variety of different font sizes to make certain songs stand out more than other and to create a less 'plain' looking album cover back.

However, this draft seems a bit plain and will need more information to make it look like a professional music album cover back.

Colours.

I have been looking over several colours which I can put together to ensure I have an effective album cover.  At the moment I have put the colours together as background and font (font Blippo Light SF).

After looking over each colour together, I can't make an immediate decision to the most effective colour and may need more time to consider colour or will need to decide once I have taken photos of my actor for the album cover.

Fonts.

Whilst creating my album cover front and back I have looked over a number of fonts for this.

The fonts I looked over included:

-  BATAVIA
-  Blippo Light SF
-  Candy Round BTN
-  Hobbit SF
-  Starliner BTN
-  Trebuchet MS

After looking over these different fonts, I have finally chosen the font Blippo Light SF for the font for my album cover.  I have chosen this due to its simplicity and how with a vibrant colour it will make the simple font stand out on the album.

Dimensions.

I have worked out the exact CD dimensions for my album cover and back.

The dimensions are different from the front to the back due to the fact that the back cover has measurements added in for the side part of a CD case.

Alternatives...

Due to the consistently bad weather we have been recieving at the present time.  I have decided to go straight into looking at creating my album cover and magazine.

Issues Which Have Presented Themselves...

I am almost at the stage to start filming my music video.  However, bad weather has delayed this and I have not be able to start filming due to the idea that 'Paradise' should have nice sunny weather and my vision of my music video is with some clear, bright weather.

Risk Assessment.

I have constructed a risk assessment which states the high and low risks which could possibly happen whilst making my music video.

Lighting.

Throughout my music video I am planning on filming all or relatively most of this outside.  Due to this the lighting I will use for my music video will be natural outside light.  More daytime light so hopefully depending on weather I will be using bright lighting.  However, I also need to film some clips at night but will hopefully be using streetlights for my lighting to ensure my actor does not fade into the background.

Location.

I have brainstormed a numerous amount of locations for my music video.

Firstly, I had to consider the 'hell' part of the music video.  My actor is in a prison almost and wished for his paradise.  For this I would need to find a location which is dull and has bars somewhere for the realistic idea of being in a prison.

Secondly, I need various locations which have a good ability to be shot from a long distance away aka a long shot can be used thus creating the idea my main character is running to his 'paradise'.

Thirdly, I need random locations where he is searching for his paradise, i.e. fields, streets etc.

But most importantly, I will need a 'paradise' where both my characters can unite and be in their 'paradise'.  Which I am thinking will be a natural, environmental area. Somewhere with trees and green scenery.

Other Considerations to Props.

In concern to other props I will need to go through my music video and determine where or when a prop should be used.  Only if I can then justify the use of said prop will I then consider using more props in my music video. 

I have questioned the use of more props because I believe that some music video can go over the top and use too many props and I do not want to do this either.

Important Props.

In my music video the use of props is highly important to me.  I have created cardboard cut-outs of the repeated chorus 'Para' and 'Paradise'.  This idea was mentioned in a post before and I have now decided to go through with this suggestion and make it a reality.
